Faults & repairs

An error code is a clue. Not a diagnosis.

The same letters or numbers can mean different things on different boiler ranges. Start with the manufacturer and exact model—not a generic code table.

The useful starting point

Photograph the full code and the visible model name. Check the manufacturer’s own user guide, and explain any returning fault when booking. Do not open the casing or keep resetting a boiler to clear an unexplained fault.

Gas smell or suspected carbon monoxide?

Get outside into fresh air and call 0800 111 999 from a safe place. Do not wait for an online booking. Read emergency guidance

Match the code to the correct boiler.

Include spaces, dots, prefixes and any alternating messages in the photograph. “Ideal”, “Baxi” or “Worcester” alone may not identify the right instructions: the range, model and sometimes the generation matter. A code should never be used on its own to order a replacement part.

Why there is no one-size-fits-all repair table here.

A code can describe what the controls detected, rather than prove why it happened. A list that turns every ignition code into “replace the ignition part”, or every circulation warning into “powerflush”, can send you towards the wrong work. The purpose of a diagnosis visit is to establish the cause.

Use the manufacturer’s homeowner instructions.

The support links below lead to official guidance. Choose the matching appliance before following any permitted user check. Stop when the instructions require an engineer, a cover to be removed or something you cannot identify safely. A recurring lockout should be reported rather than repeatedly cleared.

Send the useful details with the booking.

Explain whether you have heating and hot water, when the code appears and what happened immediately beforehand. Include any safely visible pressure reading without altering it just to make the display look normal. You do not need to translate the message yourself.

Plan the visit around the fault.

Book a diagnosis / repair appointment for an existing problem. A routine service or maintenance-plan signup is not a substitute for fault investigation. Parts and further work are quoted once the findings establish the next step.
